Verification Status Glossary

Every email you verify resolves to exactly one of the statuses below. See Email Validation Logic for how each one is determined, and Two Credit Pools: Standard vs. InsightX+ for which credit pool can produce which status.

Deliverable

• Valid - The address was confirmed to exist via InsightX+'s enhanced verification, or every other check passed with nothing flagged (Standard).

Invalid - safe to remove

• Invalid Syntax - The address doesn't follow standard email formatting (e.g. missing the @ symbol, invalid characters).
• Invalid Domain - The domain part of the address (after the @) isn't formatted correctly, separate from whether it can receive mail.
• Invalid Domain (No MX) - The domain is formatted correctly but has no mail server configured and cannot receive email.
• Disposable - The domain belongs to a known temporary/throwaway email provider.

Risky - deliverable but worth reviewing

• Catch-All (Risky) - The domain accepts mail to any address, so we can't fully confirm this specific address exists (InsightX+ only).
• Role-Based (Risky) - A generic address like info@, support@, or admin@, typically not tied to one person.
• Gibberish (Risky) - The local part (before the @) looks machine-generated rather than a real name.
• Parked (Risky) - The domain's mail provider is a known domain-parking service, not a real mail host.

Temporary / uncertain

• Greylisted (Temporary) - The destination server temporarily deferred the check, a common anti-spam tactic; the address likely exists (InsightX+ only).
• Tarpitted (Risky) - The destination server appears to be deliberately slow-walking the connection (InsightX+ only).
• Unverified (DNS Timeout) - Looking up the domain's mail settings didn't finish in time; try re-running verification.
• Unverified (Error) - An unexpected error interrupted InsightX+'s enhanced verification (InsightX+ only); try re-running verification.
